Removing the music and singing renders this classic scene ridiculous
The moment Grease hit the silver screen in 1978 it was a hit that had everyone of all ages singing and dancing along to the catchy tunes by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey. The story of Danny and Sandy (played by Olivia Newton-John) falling in love over Summer break fling and trying to keep the fire alive as the school year starts and they realize they are both attending Rydell High.
One of the most iconic scenes in Grease is John Travolta’s Danny Zuko telling his gang (the T-Birds) about his summer fling during the song and dance Summer Nights. As Danny regales the boys of he and Sandy’s affair while singing and stamping around the school bleachers. It is truly one of the catchiest songs of the film.
However, when someone took the music and singing out of the scene and it’s played with just the spoken words, it becomes ridiculous. Zuko and the T-Birds don’t look so tough any more.
